What are the main responsibilities of Cardiff bus supervisors?
My main responsibilities as a Cardiff bus supervisor is to ensure the smooth daily running of our bus network, and also look after our driving staff by helping them with their holidays, duties and any other issues they may need assistance with.
Have you held any other roles at Cardiff bus?
I have been employed by Cardiff bus for just over 16 years and I have held different roles during that time. The first position I held within the company was as an administrative assistant before being promoted to a Resources Supervisor. I held the latter position for a number of years but when I became a mum I decided to work part time in our customer service department so I could spend more time with my son. When my son started attending school for a full day I was able to apply for a full time position as an Operations Performance Analyst. I held this job for over a year before being promoted to my current role as an Operations Supervisor.
What are your favourite parts of the job?
Everyday is different which I like. You can have a very hectic day where issues arise and you have to keep problem solving so that our services continue to run, and then the next day everything may run smoothly. I like that I am able to meet different people everyday and also help the driving team and customers by ensuring buses run effectively.
Is your role challenging?
My job is very challenging. Things can change very quickly and I have to be able to react and think on my feet to resolve those issues, but you get a sense of pride when you have been able to resolve problems so they don’t have an impact on our services.
Do you like your shift patterns?
The shift patterns get some getting use to, but I can’t really imagine myself doing a 9 till 5 job now.
Would you recommend working at Cardiff bus to a friend?
I would definitely recommend Cardiff bus to a friend. I had no bus experience whatsoever when I started at Cardiff bus, and I am proof that you can learn so much when working here that it's possible to further yourself and your career.
