Travel Advice

We'll be unable to serve many city centre roads whilst the race is taking place, meaning diversions will be necessary. If you're running in either the fun run or the 10k, the road closures will be in place as you're arriving into the city centre and so you may find you bus needs to drop you off in a different place than usual - check in advance and plan your journey to help make your day go smoothly.

For anyone heading into the city centre for any other reason, please take a look at the timetables to see where your bus will be dropping off and what time it will arrive. In particular, if you're changing between services or catching a bus before 12:30 your service may be picking up at different locations, so make sure you've planned your journey in advance so you don't miss the bus.

The table below provides a summary of diversions, but please take a look at the timetables for the day as particularly for services from Penarth & Barry, or anything that arrives through Canton or through Pontcanna we'll need to divert to Taff's Mead Embankment as our usual diversion point is closed. This is a similar distance from the city centre, and is on the same side of the river Taff as the usual location, but on the other side of Wood Street / Tudor Street. This means buses may take longer than usual to get there, and if you're heading there from the city centre after crossing Wood Street Bridge you'll have to turn left under the railway bridge instead of turning right Sophia Gardens. Even after buses start to depart again from the Cardiff Bus Interchange, they will need to pick up at different locations, so it's vital to check the timetables for the day to ensure you know which way your journey will go.

Here's some tips to help you make the most of the day...

Our open top Skycar will be running, but the road closures mean a later start, and instead of visiting Cathays Park and the National Museum the service will initially terminate at Park Street near the Cardiff Bus Interchange, then at Kingsway just outside the Castle. Cardiff Bay is still a great spot to catch the last of the summer sun, and avoid the busy streets, and as well as the Skycar service 6 provides a quick and convenient connection despite the road closures.

On the Cardiff Bus app, you can also use our journey planner and see our buses in real time, and you can buy your tickets in advance so all you need to do on the day is activate the tickets as you're about to hop on board. We offer discounted Family and Group tickets if you're travelling together, and our Skycar tickets are valid on all Cardiff Bus services in Cardiff and Penarth so offer great value to add in an open top trip to your visit to the city.
